Tipping while using a gift certificate

I got a certificate for a mani-pedi for Christmas. I always get nervous using these because I'm not sure how to deal with the tip. It cost around $25 And I was thinking of tipping $5. Is that too much? I never know if I should just hand it to the girl before I walk to the counter to pay with my gift certificate or wait to give it then to be passed on. I feel like its always awkward! How do you handle the actual giving of the tip?

I usually give them cash. But make sure you have it out before you have your nails done so you don't ruin your manicure. $5 sounds good to me because it is 20%. That is a great price for a mani/pedi. Have fun!

I tip about 20%. The other night we were at Olive Garden. The entire meal was covered by the combination of gift cards, with a couple bucks left over. I asked the server if she could take the remainder of the card as her tip and combine it with the cash I was also leaving. There is no shame in asking how to do it, as long as you are tipping.

tipping with gift cert.

On the other hand, since the service was free for you due to the gift, a larger tip would also be super kind:) My daughter pointed this out to me from a server/waitress point of view. Also, handing it in cash is the best way.
