I grew up in the northeast and never once saw a Bible in a school building. I moved to the south and was shocked to see one openly sitting on top of a bookshelf in an admins office!

I think the parent effectively illustrated how easy and dangerous it is to get a book banned based on one individual’s objection. Once the book ban door swings open, it will throw out a lot of quality literature.

I think you are correct. It is a slippery slope.

Interesting. In many districts, a policy is in place where parents requesting a book ban have to answer certain questions, including whether or not the objector has read the entire book in question. I wonder if the petitioner had read the entire Bible, and how long ago.

Frankly, I doubt it will affect many children, as children of that age level aren't necessarily interesting in checking Bible out of the school library. (More interested in Dog Man, Amulet, Dork Diaries, Monster High, Percy Jackson.) And if they were interested in reading either the Bible or the Book of Mormon, it's probably available in their homes.

Furthermore, it merely takes the Bible off the library and class library shelves (if it's there.) It doesn't stop a student from bringing their own.

And I'd be interested in knowing if it applies to individual bible stories or complilations, such as bible stories for children, or Christmas stories about baby Jesus. (If any of those are on the shelves.)
