I am looking to create a video collection for use in the classroom. . . but i don't have any idea what is out there for educational videos. I guess for fun i would just pick up a couple of pixar or disney movies but i could use a few more suggestions for shorter videos.

so i am looking for advice with:

- Educational classroom videos?
- Fun videos (short or long) to show for rewards (possibly seasonal)?

United Streaming

Have you been to unitedstreaming.com? Also, be careful with copywrite laws! My sister-in-law is a librarian and she is crazy about keeping it legal.

We can't show Disney in our classrooms unless it correlates to our SCOS. In our state, we can 'borrow' videos from the Museum of History for an extremely minimal fee. You might check into that. Also our media center has a huge number of videos that we can borrow.

I agree with the previous posters. We use United Streaming all the time. Our district purchased a subscription to this awesome website. As far as Disney and Pixar....talk to your PTO. We have a site license to use these in our school and it was a huge deal in years past to use any Disney movie in the classroom. We just purchased quite a few videos through Schlessinger for Social Studies and I find that they have great movies to use with our curriculum. Tom Snyder also has quite a few Science Court videos as well. Good luck!

My kids love to watch the Bill Nye and Magic School Bus videos. They hold their attention and can be considered as curriculum support materials.

I really don't show any real "movies". The only time that I do is if they are stories that we've read aloud or together and have a G rating. For example: Ralph S. Mouse movies, The BFG, Balto, Ramona, Charlotte's Web, etc. Just be really careful to check the rating - I bought Stuart Little without realizing it's PG. Grrr!

My kids also really enjoy the Dr. Seuss videos! They're short, they make a fun reward, and I don't feel totally guilty using them. It's Dr. Suess after all!!

Often you can find good videos in the teacher resource flyers that come with the Scholastic book catalogs. I just ordered the Ralph S. Mouse DVD that has all 3 movies on it with bonus points. Now I can get rid of my old scratchy VHS tapes! :) I also purchase Magic School Bus DVD's from the Scholastic Click catalog. They are usually about $10-12 and have 3 movies on them. I get them for *free* because I always use bonus points.
