wait time?

Has anybody read any current research on the optimum number of seconds teachers should wait after they ask students a question? Someone told me that it was 8 seconds of WT, but I don't know the source of that research.

wait time

I do not know specific research BUT I have been teaching for 33 years and I wait 7 - 9 seconds depending on the question and how many students have their hands up at the time. This has worked well for me over the years.

hmmm

I've always been told 3 seconds is the optimal time, but I don't know if that's based on any research. I have to work on that because I get into asking quick review questions, and I just call on the first person with their hand up. Of course, if I keep calling on the same person, I'll give more time.

Wait time

We were always told 2-3 seconds is optimal. I have never heard of 7-9 seconds before I read a previous post here. I bet you could google wait time and find an answer as well.

3-5

I'm a student teacher right now, and the textbook that we are using in class says 3-5 seconds.
