I saw a post about this earlier, but had a couple questions. I noticed that most people's children were 7 ish. Is it appropriate for a 9 year old or would she be too old to enjoy it. I know nothing about these things, but hear kids talking about them. Is it safe to get on it. I get sooo nervous when it has anything to do with the internet and kids. Thanks for the help

she'd love it

Almost all my girls in my class (third) have and love their webkinz. It's a very safe website. There are "chat" rooms, but you can't type in your own message, you have to choose from a drop down window of phrases and sentences. Go to the webkinz website and you can read about all their safety measures. Go ahead and get her one, it's inexpensive and you might even find yourself playing on it ~ I love some of the games!!! LOL

11 year old

My daughter is 11 and loves her webkinz. My son which will be 13 on Sat. loves to play the games. Of course, he only does when he knows that no one is watching. :D

My 9 year old and 6 year old are addicted to Webkinz! It is very safe and there are lots of different activities to do (some are educational, most are just for fun). I also enjoy playing some of the games to help them earn Webkinz cash (to buy food and accessories for the pet).

FYI - the code that comes with the Webkinz (so you can access the site) is only good for 1 year. When the year is up, you'll need to purchase another Webkinz. Chances are, she'll enjoy it so much, she'll have you buying more Webkinz before the year is up!

Stay away from Rescue Pets ePets. This is a really bad knock off of Webkinz. The site is not fully operational and there are few activities to play.

10 Year old 5th grade girls addicted

My 10 year old dd and all of her friends are addicted to Webkinz...and so is her younger 7 year old brother. I have spent quite a bit of time watching them online at this site and have found nothing that I question. I love it when dd phones her friends and they are offering tech support to each other, the conversations crack me up. Also they cannot communicate with anyone that is not included in their address book and they have to get the codes from their friends to add them to the address book. Check the site out...we now have 5-6 in the house and I hate stuffed animals...they are also fairly cheap under $15 for one and the local shop here gives a 50% discount for all A report cards and A/B 25% discount, B 10% discount. My kids love working for that reward, that way they can spend their own money buying a new pet.

I hate the fact that they expire in a year...it sounds morbid to me...the pet goes and lays down on its bed and does not wake up. I just really can't stomach that at all...we have not experienced the loss of a pet yet, but I know some of my dd's friends were upset...they get attached online to their pets!

The expiration thing is actually marketing genius. You can extend the life of your old webkinz by buying more webkinz! So, your webkinz won't take the dirt nap if you keep buying more webkinz!! LOL Each time you buy something new your 1 year starts all over again.
