What do you do?

On of my rules in my classroom is that the students need to put their chair on top of their desk before they leave(so the janitor can vacuum). Sometimes students forget so then I have to do it for them. What consequence would you give them for forgetting to put it up? (I remind them every afternoon)

End of day routine

Hi,
I understand! The end of the day used to be a rough time for me also.
This year we have procedures for the end of the day. If they forget, we sit back down at our desks and start over. Maybe you could have one student every week (maybe on a job chart-they love to have jobs) to do a seat check before the students leave the room. That way you are making the students responsible instead of you having to come behind them and do it. Just a thought! I hope it helps!
Have a great day!

well,

one year I had the people who forgot put all the chairs up the next day...they didn't like that and remembered to put up their own chair =o) they were also quick to point out others who forgot their chairs...it solved my problem real quick!

Chores

Hi,

We have end-of-the-day chores. Putting the chairs up is one of them. The chores rotate very other week. It works really well.

chairs

huh. i pick my battles. chairs up aren't that big of a deal to me (chairs tucked in when getting a drink or sharpening pencil, that's another story!)

i just figure the janitor won't vacuum where he can't reach--no big deal--our floor is never that dirty that it can't wait until the next day.
