What's available in the North?

I hear a lot about teaching jobs available mainly in FL, GA, NV, AZ, etc. What is happening to the North? Are people moving from the North to the South or are we just experiencing a population boom that is taking place mainly in the South? I may be a little dense, but aside from teaching jobs, what types of jobs/occupations are available to someone who would like to live in the Northern region? Anyone know? I guess McDonald's is always hiring!! :)

I live in the northern most part of Minnesota. There's a lot of employment opportunities, but not a lot of high paying jobs. We have a couple manufacturers - snowmobiles and ATVs for one. They are major employers. Teaching jobs are not abundant, but we have good schools that are great to work in.

In Pennsylvania

It's difficult to get a job around here, at least in Western PA. There are many good teaching colleges in the state, and again wester Pa. so the supply of teachers exceeds the demand. Many of the young people around here head out to Las Vegas, Maryland, Virginia or further south. That is unless you have a relative on the school board.

I used to live in Minnesota, teaching jobs there are very hard to come by. Now I'm in Maryland, lots of teaching jobs here. Good luck. I think its the way the states are funding education. Lots of cuts in MN. Population seems to be moving some. Are expected to get by with less funds.

Relatively new to teaching in Wisconsin...three years....financial cuts are immense! Most teaching jobs are in special ed/cross-categorical and most often in middle/high school only. Slim pickins! The economy overall is really struggling unless you're in healthcare. Desperately hoping for a change!
